March 5, 2008 -We are still looking for a few basketball players for the Alumni Basketball Game. If you are a former Blazer or a former Lady Blazer, Ronni (ronni64@gmail) would like to speak to you.  She is arranging the basketball game to be played on April 13.

March 6, 2008 -By now all of you should have received an EVITE regarding Career Day. We really need you to speak about your careers to MBHS students. The date to speak is April 11. There are eight (8) periods or bands that you can speak. So, plan to speak to one or all eight periods. Your story is probably the best story that has not been told!  So if you are still interested please contact me (albert@mbhs-alumni.org) and I will forward your name to the school and they will contact you with a form that you can check off as to the periods you are able to speak and it will ask you if you need a projector or special equipment for your talk.  I can’t wait to hear your career path.  I’ll see you there!

March 7, 2008 - A few words from Coach B:

 This year we will be having an alumni volleyball game on Saturday, April 12th from 11AM until 2PM. All former players are invited back to come back and enjoy an afternoon of playing against former players from all years. We had an event two years ago and it was a fun event for all. We would especially like to bring back all of the players from the 2 City Championship seasons 1997-1998 and 1998-1999. This will be the anniversary year for those championship seasons.

March 10, 2008 - The MBHS baseball team is asking us to purchase tickets to see a minor league baseball game in Staten Island.  The details is in the flyer that is posted at the, “MBHS Night @ SI” tab.

March 16, 2008 - How’s ‘bout ‘em Lady Blazers. They just won the PSAL championship. This is their tenth consecutive PSAL title.  The final score is Lady Blazers - 85 and Manhattan Center’s Lady Rams - 47. MBHS will now go to Glens Falls in upstate New York to compete for the State Cahampionship.  GO LADY BLAZERS!

March 30, 2008 - The Lady Blazers defeated St. John the Baptist with a score of 61 to 47.  This the second straight Federation Title (New York State championship). 

April 12, 2008 - Yesterday’s Career Day/Business Mingles were great successes. We had many alumni from out of the tri-state area showed up and spoke to students.  Alums came as far west as Illinois and as far south as Virginia.

April 26, 2008 - Homeroom 8124 will be getting together in New Jersey. If you are in that homeroom or know of someone in that home room, contact me (albert@mbhs-alumni.org) ASAP so that you’ll get into the invite list.  The tentative date for the party is for the weekend of July 11.

May 13, 2008 - 2008 Alumni Weekend Update

Thank you to the alumni, family, friends, current and retired teachers, and Principal Barbara A. Esmillia for participating in the 2008 Alumni Weekend. The kick-off event on Friday, April 11th was Career Day. With outstanding participation, alumni and other business leaders spoke to students about their careers, college and “the real world.” Principal Esmillia noted that it was one of the best Career Days ever.
 
The annual Business Mingles, held at Sequoia in the South Street Seaport, immediately followed Career Day. It showcased vendors and was an opportunity for alumni and the general public to network. Business cards were exchanged throughout the evening.  Also in attendance were several current and retired teachers including the most recent retiree, Mr. Fred Hakim.  Yes everyone – He just retired.
 
Saturday was a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the girls’ volleyball team championship. Hosted by former volleyball coach Principal Esmillia, past players got together in the gym to commemorate this athletic highlight with a friendly game.  (The game was so friendly, there is no official score.)  Speaking of athletic highlights, former members of the boy’s basketball team played a physical, but fun, game on Sunday as the finale of the 2008 Alumni Weekend. It was a great game that ended with a score of Classics - 34 and Young Guns -52.  So, you may ask, who really won the volleyball and basketball games.

All proceeds from Alumni Weekend benefit programs and scholarships presented to the students.  Each year the Alumni Association presents a scholarship at graduation.  This year two scholarships will be awarded at the 2008 Commencement. 

Once again, thank you all 2008 Alumni Weekend participants.  For those of you who were unable to attend this year, see you at the 2009 Alumni Weekend.

June 26, 2008 - The Class of 2008 graduates today. The graduation will be at Lincoln Center in NYC. Let’s welcome them into our Alumni Association.
 

July 1, 2008 - MBHS Night in Staten Island was a great success.  Students, Parents, Teachers, Administrator and Alumni were there. We ate at the all-you-can-eat hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken patties until we were full.
 

July 10, 2008 - The Class of 1988 is getting together for a boat ride on Saturday August 9 at 10:30. You must RSVP by June July 26 to confirm your boarding. Everyone from the Class of 1988 should have receive an email by now. If you haven’t received an email, please email me (albert@mbhs-alumni.org) and I will give as much information as I can.

August 17, 2008 - The Class of 1978 and the Class of 1979 held their 30th and 29th reunion, respectively, last night. The theme wasa Hawaiian Luau.  There were live entertainment, music and food was plentiful.
